Religious Life at Al Akhawayn University – Rev. Karen Smith
Karen Thomas Smith has been the Chaplain to the Christian Community at Al Akhawayn University, in Ifrane, Morocco since 1996. She holds a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia (USA), and a Master of Arts in Theology from St. John’s (Benedictine) School of Theology, St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN (USA). She did further graduate work in theology at Emory University.
Ms. Smith has given conferences and led interfaith dialogue training throughout the world in Morocco, France, the United States, Germany, Italy, and Madagascar. Currently, Ms. Smith serves as President of EEAM (Eglise Evangélique au Maroc, the Protestant Church in Morocco), and of the EEAM’s Migrant and Refugee Programme, CEI (Comité d’Entraide Internationale). She is married to Kevin Smith and has one daughter, Claire Amal.
